Quotes:
It was really great to see the continued momentum on the legislative front. This year saw our best numbers yet and I wish our State officials and legislators could see how important this is to all of us who represent the business perspective. It is really important for those folks to understand that “businesses” don’t vote per se but they do matter. They are the entities who make the investments and create the jobs that drive the Illinois economy. The individuals who actually cast their vote in Illinois benefit from the business community’s impacts. The regulations, programs and policies that in turn influence business reach far beyond simple impacts and create echos into every community and household across the State. We, the business community, care about this State and it should care as deeply about us.

Report - January 23, 2006
Seventy local chamber execs, staff, government affairs committee members and a local mayor from up state attended the IACCE and Illinois Chamber's Legislative Summit in Springfield , Monday, January 23, 2006.
The Illinois Chamber was represented by Todd Maisch , Vice President of Government Affairs and Rob Carney, Director of Legislative Relations. Todd presented state chamber issues to anticipate in the up coming legislative session, and Rob reviewed the 2006 state elections. Melanie Bassett, Regional Director, U.S. Chamber of Commerce, addressed federal issues.
Rep. Dan Brady, House Republican Conference Chair, lead a discussion on the proposed 2007 capital budget. Rep. Gary Hanning, House Deputy Majority Leader was invited to participate but unable to attend.
After hearing the presentations, participants broke up into smaller groups to give an opportunity to discuss issues that are relevant to local communities with other chamber executives, and after the break out sessions, each group presented the summary of issues discussed.
The last session of the day reflected on the Legislative Summit process over the past several years and how the Illinois Chamber and IACCE can develop an improved format for 2007.
Look for some innovative ideas to move the process along, starting at the IACCE Fall Conference in November.
